I have 30 years of experience working with children, teens, adults, families, & school personnel; providing a range of therapy services, social skills groups, and evaluation services. I have worked in both clinical and school settings. I have worked in North Carolina schools for over 20 years. A native of Detroit, I earned a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University, a master's degree in clinical psychology from the Center for Humanistic Studies (now called The Michigan School of Professional Psychology), a specialist's degree in school psychology from Eastern Michigan University, and a doctoral degree in School Psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, with specialized training in the neuropsychology of learning disabilities. In addition to working with children who have a variety of challenges & from all walks of life, I am experienced in diagnosing autism spectrum disorders, working therapeutically with individuals who have autism spectrum disorder, & in understanding how concerns associated with autism spectrum disorder manifest in school settings.
My therapeutic approach incorporates elements of cognitive-behavioral, play, behavioral, humanistic, insight-oriented and family-systems therapies. I love using humor as a therapeutic intervention when it is appropriate to do so. I am also on the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction registry as a certified Traumatic Brain Injury service provider for NC public schools. As a North Carolina school psychologist for the past 22 years, I have worked collaboratively with teachers, administrators, occupational therapists, speech/language pathologists, counselors, and parents to help create interventions for children I have regularly provided internship training opportunities for graduate students from UNC and NCSU school psychology training programs.
